Recap by phillip woo

The money was spot on for Giant Leap, who just got the better of favourite Nebraskan 150m out after a speed-tracking run from gate seven for a second Class Four win over the Valley 1,200m this term. Nebraskan did everything but get the victory after being gifted an easy time in front. He's close to a win after placings in back-to-back runs. Happy Trio ran on well for third without threatening the top two after a wide trip towards the rear from gate 11. He's held his condition well to place in back-to-back runs following a win. Inno Century kept on well for fourth after a one-out, one-back run. He's shown natural progress on his four starts. Everstar came from last of those who took part to finish fifth. It was a better effort on his return to turf at his second start down in Class Four. Flying Wrote kept on all right after a wide trip without cover from gate 12 for the entire race. He's a winner waiting to happen if he can draw a proper gate over this course and distance. Ka Ying Power had no excuse after a prominent run on the fence. He's disappointed of late and will require a downgrade.

Horse No 9 HAPPY SHOOTER (J427) Z Purton The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in to give consideration as to whether HAPPY SHOOTER had been afforded a fair start.

After taking evidence from Starter A Speechley, Assistant Trainer K O Lai and Jockey Z Purton, the Stewards found that HAPPY SHOOTER reared soon after the start was effected and as a result got its left front leg over the starting gates, became cast and took no part in the event.

As the Stewards were satisfied that HAPPY SHOOTER had been afforded a fair start, the horse was declared a runner and weighed-in was declared on the numbers semaphored by the Judge.

Having regard to its previous history at the starting gates, the Stewards ruled that HAPPY SHOOTER will be required to perform satisfactorily in consecutive barrier trials before being allowed to race again.
