Carnival’s canine street party delights with superhero dogs and samba music
More than 100 dogs dressed as clowns and cartoon characters for the parade with their owners.

Rio de Janeiro’s Carnival celebrations began earlier this month in Brazil. As part of the event, dogs dressed as superheroes, clowns and cartoon characters paraded with their owners at canine street parties.
About 100 dogs happily wagged their tails to samba music while socialising at the Blocao street party. The event drew around 300 people and their pets.
“I think this is just wonderful; I’ve been coming for many years,” said Priscila dos Santos Silva, 42, a nurse who brought her Chihuahua dressed as a doll.
Antonio Marinho, 71, noted that this year’s Blocao was more considerate of the dogs, who had to deal with Rio’s warm weather. A hydration station was set up, and the usual parade route was changed to protect the pets’ delicate paws.
