Top 10: What was a small act of kindness that recently helped you in a meaningful way?
From helping a stranger with groceries to offering a kind word, students share stories about things that made a big difference in their lives.

This week’s question: “Which animal would give the best advice, and what would it say?” To take part, drop us a line via this form by 12pm on Wednesday, March 12.
Matthew Pang Chun-kiu, 16, Carmel Alison Lam Foundation Secondary School: I would often see an old woman near my school. She appeared strained as she pushed a large cart piled high with paper. One day, I decided to help her and offered to push the cart alongside her. When we reached the recycling station, she smiled at me, and I felt a sense of reward for my assistance.
Jana Cheung Yi-ning, 13, Shatin Methodist College: About a week ago, I was walking in the park with my friend when I noticed a homeless man sitting on a bench. Feeling concerned for his well-being, I decided to give him my coat. After putting it on, he seemed to shiver less, which likely helped reduce his risk of hypothermia.
Pang Lok-sum, 12 St Francis of Assisi’s College: On a rainy day, a stranger kindly offered me an umbrella while I was waiting for the bus. That simple gesture lifted my spirits and reminded me of the kindness that exists in the world. Later, I decided to pay it forward by helping an elderly neighbour carry her groceries. Small acts of kindness truly create a ripple effect.
Zhao Cheney, 16, Tin Shui Wai Government Secondary School: Recently, I extended my hand to help an elderly woman lift her packages when they suddenly fell. Without hesitation, I assisted her. She expressed her gratitude, and in that moment, I realised that spreading kindness is not difficult.
Gorretti Wong Yat-tung, 15, Leung Shek Chee College: It is challenging for introverts to ask the bus driver to drop them off before the designated stop. On one occasion, I nearly missed my stop and began to panic. Fortunately, a kind woman noticed and yelled for the driver to stop. I was touched by her gesture and expressed my gratitude.
Coco Ye Man-yee, 15, TWGHs Li Ka Shing College: Recently, on my way to school, I felt dizzy and nearly fell to the ground. However, a little girl quickly came to help me and offered me a candy. She felt like my saviour in that moment. I sincerely appreciate her small act of kindness, which helped me in a meaningful way.
Joyce Lai Yee-tung, 17, Fung Kai No 1 Secondary School: Last week, I forgot my wallet at home while I was shopping. I felt embarrassed being in front of the shop owner with no money. Fortunately, a kind lady came to my rescue and offered me some cash. I want to pay it forward and share that kindness with other people.
Top 10: Where we think a secret door might lead us
Shirley Zou Xuerou, 13, Pope Paul VI College: Recently, I saw a man sitting at the bus stop and decided to approach him. He explained that he didn’t have enough money for a bus fare, but his mother was dying and he wanted to see her one last time. I felt compelled to help him, so I gave him the money for the bus.
Xue Chiman, 16, Christ College: Once, I was struggling with a lot of luggage and was concerned about how to get it all up. A young man stepped forward and offered to help me lift the bags. I thanked him, but he smiled and said, “It’s just a small thing.” At that moment, I felt genuinely touched.
Caleb Woo Kok-him, 15, International Christian Quality Music Secondary and Primary School: While walking through a busy market, I noticed a woman in a wheelchair. I helped her buy groceries on the second floor of a store, and after a brief conversation, I learned more about the needs of people with disabilities. Seeing her smile, I felt a sense of accomplishment in being able to assist her.
