Liam Harrison said he “wants a war” with Soe Lin Oo, a fighter the Englishman described as “one of the toughest men in the sport” ahead of their meeting at ONE 173 in August.
Harrison has built his career on delivering barnburners but, in Denver, will be facing a fighter with a reputation for being incredibly tough to put away.
“This guy is a savage,” Harrison told the Post. “If you’ve seen his fights in Myanmar, you know what I mean.
“He’s fought in Lethwei (Burmese bare-knuckle boxing with head butts allowed) and he’s one of the toughest men in the sport. He’s been in absolute wars and just walks forward, no matter what you hit him with.
“I know he’s gonna come at me, and I love that. I want a war. I want to stand there, bite down on my gumshield, and trade bombs. That’s what I live for. That’s what the fans want to see.”


But Harrison would not be satisfied with simply beating Soe, he wants to make a statement on August 1.
“I want to see if I can put him away,” he added. “No one really knocks this guy out, but that’s the challenge for me. I don’t care about just winning – I want to do something special.”
At 38, and with two fights left on his ONE deal, Harrison knows his fighting career is coming to an end.
“I’m sure some fighters wonder what on Earth they’re gonna do after fighting, whereas I am packed pretty much,” he said. “I have so many things going on, and that’s by design.
“I’ve been preparing for life after fighting for years.”
Having left his gloves in the Circle after his loss to Seksan last year, Harrison was drawn back into the sport for one last hurrah and is rejuvenated after claiming the WBC Diamond Belt with a knockout win over Spain’s Isaac Araya.
“I haven’t needed to fight probably the last seven or eight years, to be fair,” he said. “I do it because I love it.

“I’m not one of those guys who fights because he has to. If that feeling ever goes away, that’s when I’ll know it’s time to stop.”
Meanwhile, Harrison has been keeping an eye on rising star Nabil Anane, who recently shocked the fighting world with a win over Briton’s friend Superlek Kiatmuu9 at ONE 172.
“Before his fight, I told everyone, ‘Superlek won’t lay a glove on him’,” he said. “They all said I was crazy.
“And then what happened? He didn’t lay a glove on him! The kid is unreal. Nabil’s last three fights, he’s just had this nasty power come out of nowhere.
“Before, he was all technique, all skill, but now? The snap on his shots, the way they crack – Jesus Christ, he’s got some explosivity in him.”
However, for now, Harrison’s focus is purely on Soe.
“I have so much respect for him, but when the bell rings, it’s a fight,” he said. “And when I fight, I come to take heads off.”
