The Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens promises to be bigger and better than ever this year as it takes place at Kai Tak Stadium – the first international sporting event to be held there.

After nearly 50 years on Hong Kong Island since its birth in 1976, most of them at Hong Kong Stadium in Causeway Bay, the event is crossing the harbour to take up residence at the city’s freshly completed venue in Kowloon.

With that move will come several firsts and landmark figures.

More tickets, bigger Sevens

The tournament’s biggest ever attendance is guaranteed: whereas the old stadium held up to 40,000 people, there will be a capacity of 47,000 for the first edition at Kai Tak.

Nearly 43,000 tickets had been sold – more than 90 per cent – by the eve of kick-off.

All of the corporate hospitality suites and corporate boxes had also been sold.

18 bands, 2 Liverpool FC legends

There is a new Sevens fan village, located in the event area to the east of the stadium. An extension to the arena, it will be open to Sevens ticket-holders, with capacity for up to 4,000.
