Marco Fu Ka-chun made his entrance at the World Grand Prix in Hong Kong on Saturday, but afterwards raised the possibility of soon ending his 27-year professional snooker career.

Fu, who played Jimmy White in an exhibition curtain-raiser for the semi-finals at Kai Tak Arena, said he would weigh up his options following the World Championship in England in April and May.

At No 71 in the world, the Hongkonger is seven places outside the top-64 spot needed to retain the two-year World Snooker Tour card he was awarded in 2023.

“I’m not sure what I will do, it depends how I do in the World Championship,” the 47-year-old said. “I’m going to concentrate on preparing for … the biggest tournament we have.

“I want to play well and enjoy it. I’m really looking forward to it and I’m not thinking too far ahead.”

Twice a Crucible semi-finalist, Fu last featured there in 2018 and will have to go through qualifying early next month. He has won only nine ranking matches this season, his best finishes being the last 32 at September’s British Open and October’s Wuhan Open.
