Hong Kong should target Olympic medals in 2032 for ‘fearless’ young cyclists, coach says
Herve Dagorne praises emerging riders who ‘think about winning’, with Daniel Yip’s Asian junior title proof that new approach is working

Daniel Yip Hon-man, who scorched to Asian Road Cycling Championships gold this week, is spearheading a new Hong Kong generation who do not want to settle for second-best, according to coach Herve Dagorne.
The 17-year-old Yip thrillingly streaked clear at the end of the 118km (73-mile) men’s junior road race in Thailand on Thursday to become the first Hongkonger to capture the title since Wong Kam-po in 1991. Ceci Lee Sze-wing added to Hong Kong’s medal haul with bronze in Saturday’s women’s road race.
Yip, a product of the SHKP Supernova Cycling Team, has spent most of the past 12 months training and racing in Europe.
“His pathway is what I want for every Hong Kong athlete,” Dagorne said. “What he learned in Europe helped him with his choices during the race. He attacked at good times.

“We want our riders to have good knowledge of tactics and strategy, and he has developed this profile earlier than the others.”
