Olympic stars Siobhan Haughey, Cheung Ka-long lead Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards nominees
Swimmer will face a strong challenge from Vivian Kong, who in Paris became the first female fencer to win gold for Hong Kong

Hong Kong’s Olympic heroes lead the nominations list for the Cathay 2024 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards, after voting opened on Monday.
Swimmer Siobhan Haughey, who won the women’s award three times in a row from 2021, became the city’s first four-time Olympic medallist in Paris.
Haughey won two bronze medals in the 100 and 200 metres freestyle in the French capital last summer, to go with the pair of silvers she won at the Tokyo Games in 2021.
However, she will face a strong challenge from Vivian Kong Man-wai, who in Paris became the first female fencer to win gold for Hong Kong with her dramatic victory over hometown favourite Auriane Mallo in the final, where she recovered from a 1-7 deficit to win 13-12.
Other nominees include cyclist Ceci Lee Sze-wing, table tennis starlet Doo Hoi-kem and rising tennis star Cody Wong Hong-yi.

In the men’s category, fencer Cheung Ka-long is favourite after he became a two-time gold medallist with a sensational victory in the individual foil final in Paris.
