Sean Dyche said he believes history will judge his time as Everton boss kindly, and has nothing but pride in how he guided the team through two years of turmoil.

The Englishman was replaced at Goodison Park in January by David Moyes, who he considers a friend, with the Merseyside club at the wrong end of the table having won just three times in the Premier League all season.

Moyes, in contrast, has won four in six since taking over, moving Everton 13 points above the relegation zone and into 14th, a place ahead of his old club Manchester United who they play on Saturday.

And in an interview with the Post in Hong Kong, Dyche said he was delighted to see his old club doing well, believing it reinforced all the work he and his staff had done since taking over in January 2023.

“It [my time at Everton] will be measured differently over the years,” Dyche said. “I’m not being big-time about it, but hopefully in five years’ time the club is building a bigger, brighter future.

“When the club is in the new stadium, has grounded itself, hopefully there’ll be investment and people, I think, will look back and go ‘fair play, you know what, without that period, this wouldn’t have happened’.”
