This gold hotpot costs US$97,000, but does it make food taste better?
Luxury pot made out of precious metal ordered by customer in China amid surging price of gold provokes shock on social media

A woman in southern China who posted a video of herself eating hotpot from a luxury pure gold pot that weighs 1kg and is worth 700,000 yuan (US$97,000) has shocked the online community.
The woman, who owns two gold wholesale shops in Shuibei, Shenzhen’s famous gold and jewellery street, said the pot was custom-made for a customer by a factory whose owner was a friend of hers.
The unnamed woman told the Chinese media outlet Dute News that the pot was worth 700,000 yuan, according to the latest price of gold plus processing charges.
She said she took the video to show off the unique product before the factory delivered it, and she had received permission from the customer.
She said it was the first time that she had known anyone to have a pot made of gold. The orders they received were usually for jewellery made out of the precious metal.

The woman also received another customer order to make a 500g golden durian as a gift.
