For many people, running a 42km (26-mile) marathon would be considered a bucket list-worthy achievement. But Hongkonger Kevin Field is setting his sights even higher.
Starting from Saturday, the 28-year-old will run a 50km ultra-marathon every day for a week. He plans to do a 5km loop between the Central Harbourfront and the Wan Chai promenade, running the route 10 times a day for more than four hours.
Field hopes to raise HK$35,000 (US$4,500) for Run Hong Kong, a local charity that supports the city’s refugees and asylum seekers through sport. He has already reached nearly HK$11,000 as of Friday morning.
While he acknowledged some people might think his running target is crazy, he described it as being all about inspiring others for a good cause.
“All I’m really trying to show is if you put a little bit of time, and a little bit of effort into things, you can actually achieve some amazing things,” he said.
Field, who is half-British, half-Korean, grew up in Hong Kong and now splits his time between the city and Singapore, where he works as a gym manager. An avid rugby fan, he spent his adolescence playing the sport in Hong Kong.
