One person was injured when an 84-year-old driver mistook his car’s accelerator for the brake and mounted a pavement in Hong Kong on Sunday, according to an insider.

The source said the driver was trying to stop his car from sliding forward at the car park entrance of the Kowloon City Plaza shopping centre.

“He mistakenly stepped on the gas pedal, causing the car to dash forward and damage the car park’s gates and government fences,” the insider said.

The driver and his two passengers reported pains after the accident.

Police said they received a report in the morning that a driver had crashed in Kowloon City.

The driver, who passed an on-site breath test for alcohol, reported feeling chest pains.
