Trio arrested as Hong Kong cracks down on Kai Tak Sports Park ticket touts
Opening ceremony tickets worth HK$10 on sale for up to HK$2,000

Superintendent Wong Yick-lung, of the force’s Kowloon East regional headquarters, said on Tuesday two of the arrestees did not have the required electronic vouchers to claim the tickets. Further investigation was needed to determine whether it was possible to claim tickets using those held by the remaining individual, Wong added.
The city’s latest multipurpose venue will hold an opening ceremony for the public on March 1. Authorities started the sale of 8,500 tickets priced at HK$10 to the public on Friday, which were snapped up in just 30 minutes.
The sale, however, only gave out online redemption vouchers to residents, whose name must match that of the person claiming tickets.
“On February 21, police received a report that there were criminals selling tickets for the March 1 opening ceremony of Kai Tak Sports Park on online platforms,” Wong said.
“The prices of these tickets were much higher than the original price, reaching between HK$100 and HK$2,000 for a single ticket.”
Wong added that the force immediately launched an investigation, arresting a man and two women, aged between 16 to 33, for attempted fraud on Monday night.
