Hong Kong’s tourism chief has floated a proposal for electronic passes at mega-events and pledged to lead a reform of the local ticketing system, starting with a review of Cityline’s operations after the firm’s recent mix-ups.

In an exclusive interview with the Post, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law Shuk-pui expressed her dissatisfaction with Cityline after earlier controversies involving ComplexCon and Coldplay concert tickets.

“I’m obviously disappointed … I still don’t know exactly what went wrong, but I think this is something that Cityline should explain to everyone,” she said.

She stressed the need for Cityline to provide satisfactory explanations to the public, given its role in managing crucial events.

The ticket distributor found itself in hot water over the weekend, after it admitted to misprinting some passes for British rock band Coldplay’s coming shows in April, forcing fans to physically exchange them for new ones between March 24 and April 7.

Cityline has since apologised to ticket holders.
