Tributes have been paid to revered Hong Kong director Clarence Fok Yiu-leung, after his death at the age of 68 more than a year ago was confirmed on Thursday.

Federation of Hong Kong Filmmakers spokesman Tenky Tin Kai-man confirmed Fok, who was battling with heart disease and kidney cancer, died at Sha Tin Hospital in February last year.

Tien added that he was only notified by Fok’s family last month and took time to verify the news.

He said Fok earned his reputation in the film and television industry at a young age after taking up director and producer roles at around 20 years old.

“It is never easy to gain recognition from the television industry in the big time. He had special talent and used a new perspective to film,” Tien said.

Joining the film and television industry in the 1970s, Fok is well-known for directing multiple Canto drama productions in the city’s biggest free-to-air broadcaster, Television Broadcasts (TVB).
