Footage of two separate fights at an elite Hong Kong boys’ school has gone viral, with one video showing a youngster rushing over to punch a classmate in the head and another clip featuring a student on the floor getting kicked in the stomach.
The social media user who uploaded the two videos to Instagram said they aimed to raise awareness of bullying at St Paul’s College, and hoped the school would take action to rectify the problem.
The videos were uploaded on March 4 and Sunday of this week, and became widely discussed on the Reddit-like site LIHKG on Tuesday.
The 26-second clip from March 4 was filmed at the back of a classroom and starts with a student getting up from the floor and rushing to punch one of his classmates in the head and stomach.
The second student does not fight back and walks out of the room before returning and pointing at the first pupil.
Another boy yells: “Hey! Aren’t you afraid of him?” The first two pupils then start pushing each other.
More than 10 pupils can be seen sitting in the room at the time, but no teachers appear. The clip shows most of the students playing with their tablets and laughing when the brawl erupts, except for two who try to stop the fight.
The student who started the fight keeps hitting his classmate, before trying to raise his left knee to strike the other pupil and punch him in the stomach. A classmate also tries to hold back the attacker’s hand.
A clock in the classroom shows the fight happened at around 1.42pm.
The 52-second video posted on Sunday was later deleted but showed a student pushing a shorter classmate onto the floor.

The pair scuffle as the second pupil manages to get off the floor and punch the first twice before he is hit three times in the head and down his back.
The shorter boy falls to the ground again before getting kicked in the stomach a final time. Another pupil can be heard yelling foul language during the fight.
The clip also shows the second boy moaning as he lies on the ground, with one of his shoes having come off amid the brawl. Two students can be heard asking whether the boy is alright afterwards. No teachers appear in the video.
Discussing their decision to upload the videos, the social media user said: “Its purpose is to raise awareness of the bullying issue that has been plaguing this school … fix your bullying issue, please,” it said.
A spokeswoman for the Education Bureau said it had contacted the school, which had maintained communication with stakeholders, and provided support to the affected students. It added it had reminded schools to strengthen their training and counseling work.
A spokeswoman for St Paul’s College confirmed the two videos showed incidents that took place on the school’s campus.
The video from March 4 showed a fight that happened last month, while the second clip was of an incident from two years ago.
The school had treated both cases seriously and disciplined the students behind the attacks. It stopped short of saying what specific actions were taken.
The school held counselling sessions for the students and also offered emotional support to those who witnessed the fights, the spokeswoman said.
The Education Bureau and the parents of the relevant students were also notified of the incidents.
