Tons of fish fry at southwestern China aquatic farm in ongoing heatwave

Tons of fish have died in a heatwave in China’s Sichuan province as fishponds turned into hot pools under the sweltering sun.

About 15 tons of fish in an aquatic farm in the city of Dazhou died, causing a loss of at least 200,000 yuan (HK$ 232, 500) to the owner, the Sichuan Daily reported.

The owner said he had kept fish for about 30 years but he had never experienced anything like this before.

“The temperature is too high and the water is scalding, so even a person can’t bear standing in the fishpond water for an hour,” he said.
