Gulshan Rafiq

Dr Gulshan Rafiq is chief organizer at the Consortium for Asia Pacific Studies in Pakistan. She also serves as an assistant professor at National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST). She completed her PhD at Fudan University, Shanghai, and holds an MSc and MPhil degree in defence and strategic studies from Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad. Her research areas cover contemporary international affairs, traditional security threats and nuclear nonproliferation issues.

Given the India-US bromance, Pakistan and China have little choice. Expect Afghanistan to remain a focus amid efforts to counter US-led narratives.

Pakistan hopes Biden will address its concerns on regional instability and India’s revisionist policies. Relations, dominated by strategic concerns, can be more productive if they work on larger goals such as climate, health, education and infrastructure.
